Experience

As can be seen from my qualifications I'm a Biologist, but given the nature of the work I focus on, it is fairly interdisciplinary. As such I've accumulated a fair bit of knowledge on Biology, Math (of all sorts), Statistics, basic Psychology and Neuroscience, and as a native English speaker I am able to apply my teaching abilities to the English language as well. \\\ I've also worked with several international schools in both the Netherlands and Italy as a substitute teacher and registered tutor, having also organized science workshops and given talks on everything from an introduction to biology to more advanced topics like flatworm regeneration, as well as overviewes of university science and career paths. \\\ As the son of two university professors, I've always been been exposed to the lifestyle of an educator. As such, I've been tutoring people on a variety of differing subjects from English to Math to Science ever since I was 15. As someone who plans to become a professor later in life, I find tutoring to be great practice. \\\ In fact, my first job as a tutor was teaching a kid a few years younger than I how to speak English.

Hobbies

I enjoy spending time outside hiking, exploring and understanding the nature around me. I study it because I genuinely enjoy every aspect of the world around me. I also pretend to be an amateur photographer, but only my mom really thinks my pictures are any good, I enjoy taking them though. \\\ I love to cook and exploring the flavors and aromas of the past. We need to eat to keep on living, so why not enjoy the process. \\\ I also keep aquaria and terratia as I'm not satisfied enough with the nature around me, but I love to bring nature inside my home. There is a lot more to that than simply putting an animal in a box like many people thing. I particularly enjoy providing the animals I keep with a complex ecosystem that matches their natural environment as closely as possible as many of the animals I keep are endangered or extinct in the wild due to human activity and only persist in the world through the efforts of zoos and animal hobbits like myself. There is a reason I study conservation ecology after all.
